Bono's Stories of Surrender pays magical homage to the rock star's wife and father 🟠 Don't go thinking this was just a memoirist, on a stool, reading, finger on chin. This was a show. Of course it was. It’s Bono ✍️ Craig McLean

There were also sketches starring Bono, as well as the heart surgeon who saved life, his dad, and Pavarotti. The diminutive lad born Paul David Hewson does a fine impersonation of the greatest living rock star, but an even better one of the late operatic tenor. His Tommy Cooper is pretty decent, too.

Actual shout-out to Douglas Alexander, minister in the Blair and Brown governments, in recognition of their allyship in the rock star’s indefatigable fight against global poverty. The fledgling U2 wrestling “I Will Follow” into existence in a County Dublin rehearsal room, but it never occurring to the wannabe frontman to visit the grave of his mother, not 100 yards distant in the adjacent cemetery. Bono’s Sunday Guinnesses in the pub with stoutly unimpressed dad Bob, who always opened with the conversational gambit “Anything strange or startling?” and who dealt with his grief at the loss of wife Iris by… never mentioning her again.
