True Blood actress Deborah Ann Woll has revealed that the final season of the acclaimed HBO series didn’t end the way she hoped it would.

True Blood star Deborah Ann Woll revealed the show didn't end the way she wanted. Adapted by American Beauty writer Alan Ball, the show was based on the bestselling Southern Vampire Mysteries book series by Charlaine Harris. Premiering in 2008, the series enjoyed a seven-season run on HBO with Woll featuring as the reoccurring character Jessica Hamby, a young vampire turned by Bill Compton in season 1.

Discussing her True Blood tenure on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Woll admitted that the final season didn't end as she'd hoped. Explaining that she loved her character, Woll confided that the finale did not play out the way she'd wanted and that she'd envisioned Jessica leaving to travel the world or rising to prominence in vampire politics. Woll also added that she'd like to see Jessica return with more story in any potential reboot.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY “I know nothing about any movie. I love the character, if it was well-written, sure. I’ll say this, True Blood did not end the way I thought it was going to end, or really wanted it to end. I was like, “She should go explore the world and become queen of Louisiana, or something like that.” So, I would love more story for Jessica out of that.

Concluding back in 2014, the seventh and final season garnered considerable criticism from fans despite its steady ratings. Though the show had begun to deviate sharply from the source material several seasons earlier, its last episodes proved to be some of the most controversial as fans were left unhappy with the "endgames" of beloved characters like Sookie Stackhouse , Bill Compton and Eric Northman . Their love triangle became one of the show's most vibrant assets.

With development supposedly underway on a reboot series, fans could see their beloved characters returned to the small screen in the next few years. Though original showrunner Alan Ball is attached as an executive producer, the new adaptation will likely overhaul much of True Blood's story, which was already broadly divergent from the acclaimed book series by Harris.
