Kevin Costner's Paramount epic “Yellowstone” reached 12.1 million viewers for the opening night of its fifth season, the most popular scripted series episode so far in the new television season, the Nielsen company says.

This image released by Paramount Network shows Kevin Costner in a scene from"Yellowstone." Kevin Costner's Paramount epic “Yellowstone” reached 12.1 million viewers for the opening night of its fifth season on Sunday, the most popular scripted series episode so far in the new television season, the Nielsen company said.

“We've been able to create a show that didn't start out being popular but did it on its own terms,” Costner said in a recent interview with The Associated Press. The show is overwhelmingly popular in red states. States with Republican governors — topped by Texas — watch “Yellowstone” three times as much as states with Democratic governors, according to Philo, a live TV streaming service.

While “Yellowstone” is a huge success for Paramount, the company is also making money for a corporate rival. Streaming rights for previous seasons of the series are owned by Comcast's Peacock service, because the Paramount+ streaming outlet did not exist when they were up for grabs.

I’ve never seen an episode but this number peaked my interest. Typically don’t watch cowboy things. Is it anything like Succession or Billions 😂

I tried to watch when I got in from work. It didn’t give me heart failure like other opening seasons… but I still love yellowstone modernwest

lol. Yes 'the most popular scripted series episode so far in the new television season'. It's after all the only episode in the season

Anyone have the breakdown in demographics? It’s gotta be a lot of middle aged women. This cowboys are 🔥

‘How the cookie crumbles’: Kevin Costner is ‘OK’ if he loses fans over political viewsActor Kevin Costner is content with standing by his political beliefs — even if that means losing some fans. Another Hollywood fake. I would boycott his bullshit, but I already knew not to bother. Yup, he lost me. People don’t turn on tv at night after a long day to hear abt politics. They want to be entertained. If Costner wants to be a politician RUN FOR OFFICE or shut the f*** up. Why do you guy have a subheadings for this article called: 'POLITICAL POLARIZATION' It appears that you add to said 'polarization' by catagorizing this story in that way.

Kevin Costner: I Don't Care if 'Yellowstone' Fans Don't Like Me over My Support for Liz CheneyActor Kevin Costner responded to the criticism he received for backing Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), saying that he has no regrets, adding that he doesn't care if 'Yellowstone' fans no longer like him over his support for Cheney. Nothing about Yellowstone is conservative or Right side politics. It is a fun SHOW. The characters are horrible people, for the most part. They know this and accept it. 250,000 acre ranch w/ 40 cows and 5 hands? In rl, Costner is what Dutton hates. California wannabee cowboys Well he’s rich so he can afford to be a liberal. It’s funny how liberals preach gun control but are okay with guns when they’re getting rich off them. Im sure it's in his contract.
