J.D. Dillard's 'Star Wars' movie is no longer happening, and the director is no longer attached to helm the 'Rocketeer' sequel for Disney.

J.D. Dillard is no longer attached to direct any Star Wars movies, according to reporting by The Wrap. This news comes a few weeks ahead of the release of his Korean War film Devotion, and on the heels of reports that indicated that Shawn Levy is in talks to direct a Star Wars film. In addition to the unfortunate news that Dillard has walked away from his plans for a galaxy far, far away, the report also revealed that he is no longer attached to the Rocketeer sequel he was set to direct.

In an interview with The Wrap about his upcoming film, Dillard was asked about a few of the in-production projects that he had been attached to over the last few years, with one of them being the unnamed Star Wars film. Dillard explained that these projects, including Star Wars, were no longer "go" projects. Specifically, on Star Wars, Dillard said that it was “unfortunately no longer a thing," though it "was not for lack of trying.

COLLIDER VIDEO OF THE DAY Dillard said that he didn't want to discuss too much of what the film would have been like when asked, though he did cite the video game TIE Fighter as a heavy influence. He told The Wrap: My dad being an aviator, we had a bunch of flight simulators [including "TIE Fighter"] I’m playing this game for months. And my dad’s flying it with me. And I’m like, ‘Man, this game is just so cool.’ And he’s like, ‘Well, you know, this game comes from a series of movies.’ And I was like, ‘You’re kidding me.’ That is where I watched ‘Star Wars’ for the first time and realized the full scope of what it meant to world build because I’d been playing this pseudo-16-bit game.

Dillard's upcoming film Devotion is set to soar into theaters on November 23, 2022. Stay tuned to Collider for future news on upcoming Star Wars projects. Check out our interview with Dillard and the cast of Devotion below:
