MCU's Zemo Actor Responds To Thunderbolts Movie Absence

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Zemo actor Daniel Brühl opens up about his absence from the cast list for the upcoming film, Thunderbolts. Brühl's Zemo first entered the MCU as the main antagonist in 2016' Captain America: Civil War, where he acted as the puppet master who successfully got Iron Man, Captain America, and the rest of the Avengers to turn on each other.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In June 2022, it was announced a Thunderbolts film was in development, centering on anti-heroes and former villains from previous MCU films. By September, it was announced that the Thunderbolts team would consist of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine , Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier , Yelena Belova/Black Widow , Ava Starr/Ghost , Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster , John Walker/U.S. Agent , and Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian .

"Even if I could [explain my absence], I couldn't, you know. The only thing I can say, everybody knows – is I'm not dead! How Marvel's Thunderbolts Can Explain Zemo's Absence While Brühl's comments do not offer answers as to why he isn't appearing in Thunderbolts, he does seem to emphasize the fact that Zemo is still alive, and therefore the door is still wide open for his eventual return to the franchise. It is also worth noting that Thunderbolts is not set to release until 2024, and a lot can change in the MCU and with its characters between now and then.

Although there is a wait to see where Zemo ends up next, it is interesting to see Brühl hint there is more to come from his character, whether that is in the Thunderbolts or not. It is also worth noting that Kevin Feige stated that although the Thunderbolts team's lineup has been announced, there is still room for more members to be added. After all, the MCU is known for keeping information away from audiences whenever possible, preserving big reveals for as long as possible.

I think at the end of the film, he will form a new version of the team, for his own purposes, using the citizen name Citizen V
