Grammy-nominated singer Eric Burton lost track of the lyrics during "The Star-Spangled Banner" before Friday night's World Series opener between Houston and Philadelphia.

With players and staff lined up on the field for the traditional pre-game ceremony, and a giant American flag unfurled across the outfield, the Black Pumas band leader went off track on the second line. He sang: "What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last streaming" instead of "gleaming." He continued correctly with: "Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight." But then, instead of "O'er the ramparts we watch'd were so gallantly streaming?" he backtracked to "What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last" before again singing "streaming" instead of "gleaming."

Burton then picked up correctly with "And the rocket's red glare, the bomb bursting in air" and finished uneventfully.Copyright © 2022 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.

BRaVe and eMpOwErEd!

Don't agree to do the anthem if don't know the words.

I loved him with War and The Animals

That is an extreme amount of pressure to sing that. At least he didn’t spit and grab his crotch at the end like Roseanne Barr.

O no

It is not an easy song to sing. Unless you have sung it in public, you should leave it at that.

🤦🏽‍♀️

Well, we go his point.

Lost track? He totally butchered the words!🤦‍♀️ My 9 year old granddaughter said, “He’s singing the wrong words”!

YES he did. It WAS a dud. If one is asked to sing the Anthem Then they SHOULD know the lyrics.

Joe asked him to modify lyrics, Joe (don’t) know

Amazing singer! Great voice! Nicely done Eric Burton!

National anthem singer flubs lyrics at World Series openerGrammy-nominated singer Eric Burton lost track of the lyrics during 'The Star-Spangled Banner” before the World Series opener. He twice sang the line “What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last streaming” and sang it incorrectly both times. 💁‍♀️🇺🇸 He should have gone to the last Trump Rally. The crowd sang it perfectly. I’m wondering if it really matters?
