Parkland redoubles commitment to South Dallas with pop-ups in public housing | Opinion

, which is why we are excited about Parkland Health’s new partnership with Dallas’ public housing authority. Parkland is working with DHA Housing Solutions for North Texas, to open health care hubs in two public housing communities.

The pop-ups will focus on providing nutrition guidance, HIV screenings, mammogram scheduling, and preventive care for things like high blood pressure and pediatric asthma. We cannot overstate the importance of this initiative. Even a routine doctor’s appointment requires time, money and transportation or technology. Bringing health care hubs directly to places where people live, work and worship can remove those barriers.

“We also screen families for what we call patient financial assistance, which is Parkland’s charity program, because we do understand that one of the biggest barriers to coming to get care is people are concerned about the bills,” Hernandez said.
