Good god. WillGompertzBBC has always been a miserable, pompous critic but this is a whole other level. I couldn’t disagree with you more. As a massive fan of the first film I have to say this film was superb. Emily, dare I say it, is a better Mary. There, I did say it.

Typical lefty kill-joy! It is not a sequel to Gone With The Wind - it’s Mary Poppins and the real critics - our children - will enjoy this version as much as we enjoyed the first. Bah Humbug to you!
Her accent is so different from Julie Andrews’ that I can’t believe it’s the same character.

Fans of the original (by nature) dont like change, so as adults are unlikely to like it. As for youngsters, time has moved on & this genre, style & film toplc are now less popular. Doubt that it will be big success. MaryPoppins

I didn't hear any songs that I'll be singing tomorrow, much less in 50 years. The male lead has been in the news, has come out politically against trump, and seems arrogant. Unlike Van Dyke who everyone loves. I liked the rapping... that was very good. And not in every second song. That was good.
