New national test results show that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought historic learning setbacks for America’s children. Every single state saw math or reading scores decline in the latest results from the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

It’s no surprise that children are behind. The pandemic upended every facet of life and

Math scores were worst among eighth graders, with 38% earning scores deemed “below basic” — a cutoff that measures, for example, whether students can find the third angle of a triangle if they’re given the other two. That’s worse than 2019, when 31% of eighth graders scored below that level. “I’m not concerned that they can’t or won’t recover,” Gordon said. “I’m concerned that the country won’t stay focused on getting kids caught up.”

“While the pandemic was a blow to schools and communities, we cannot use it as an excuse,” he said. “We have to stay committed to high standards and expectations and help every child succeed.”Other recent studies have found that students who spent longer periods learning online suffered greater setbacks. But the NAEP results show no clear connection.

Or future Maga voters

the pandemic caused it, more or less like the car ran over people in Wisconsin

Hold trials for those responsible. That would include fearmongers. Journalists would of course be exempt. A journalist could tell the difference between 'x' and 'response to x' It would appear ap doesn't have any journalists and therefore is culpable.

What a shocker. 🙄

It’s your party’s fault

It's almost as if extended school closures had severe negative effects on our children. E-learning and virtual classrooms can never replace in person instruction.

It was a pandemic response not pandemic.

Yet school is literally being targeted, Black children most affected. UN_Women UNESCO BOTH PARTIES are responsible for the conditions we suffer in. GOP for creating them. DNC for doing NOTHING in DECADES to stop it! ICJ_org They knew since 1980, they didn't believe. hrw UN

Wait! Every state? I thought Florida excelled. 🤷‍♂️

This place is determined to blame everything on Covid and nothing on their response or lack there of to it. This place is vile.

Democrats caused this, not Covid

ap, where’s the link to the scores? A list by state? Your article claims LA County improved reading scores while Dallas and a Florida county barely held their own. I’d like to see the actual scores rather than take your clearly biased report on them.

It’s global. Move on and stop trying to act like America was the only country that shut down. The real issue is the curriculum companies don’t make $$$$ if they don’t feed this narrative BS out.

Because a lot of parents are crappy teachers. Likely crappy parents too.

The virus itself didn’t do anything to math and reading scores. The politically-driven government response did.

LizWillis_ Learning from home or working from are a joke

So maybe we won’t be so easily fooled next time by the teacher’s unions and the constant panic porn that was inflicted upon on us from the media. Next time we will be smart enough to push back hard on the over reach of the government and won’t allow shutdowns again.

So, parents DON’T know more than teachers about, you know, teaching?!?

Govt did their Corp donors a huge favor w/ the shutdowns. Corporations will get their pick from a future crop of cheap Laborers. No education + No Union = No Bargaining Power

Who cares. They spend their brain power & energy posting dumb TikTok videos, 'choreograph' dances that make you question their IQ, & virtue signal (dyed hair). This new generation are suckers for marketing.

LizWillis_ 🙄🙄🙄

Yeah. A lot of people predicted this. Remember at the polls.

It's not a race. It literally effected everyone. It's not like they're all going to finish high school and be too far behind for college.

So it turns out teachers aren't that bad
