After years of campaigning, fans of cult sitcom Community are getting their wish

A movie based on the college-set cult sitcom Community has finally been green-lit.It has been ordered by the streaming service Peacock in a move that is sure to delight fans who had been campaigning for the film to be made for years.Renowned for its meta-humor and pop culture references, a second-season episode of Community saw one of its characters declaring that one of his favourite shows would run for"six seasons and a movie".

The line would emerge as a passionate slogan for fans of Community, with many calling for a film based on the series after its sixth and final season concluded in 2015. In a statement on Friday, Peacock confirmed that the movie will come from the show's creator Dan Harmon and will reunite its stars Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong. However, the show's other cast members Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown were not included in the streaming service's announcement.

That said, in a Twitter post about the movie, McHale tagged both Glover and Brown, while Brown also tweeted about the film - providing hope to fans that the pair will be somehow involved in the project.
