BREAKING: Chadwick Boseman has won a posthumous Emmy Award for his performance in Marvel's WhatIf.

Just over two years after his death, Chadwick Boseman has won a posthumous Emmy Award for his Marvel's What If...? performance. The animated Disney+ series acted as an adaptation of the Marvel Comics of the same name, which explored alternate realities from those known by readers, in which major heroes saw different people don their monikers and a variety of new threats come onto the world, including a zombie outbreak. The What If...

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Boseman scored widespread acclaim for his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which began with 2016's Captain America: Civil War before leading his own solo Black Panther movie. He would carry on his role though appearances in Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame and What If...?, the latter of which served as his final MCU performance as he completed his work on the show prior to his 2020 death. His turn in Marvel's What If...

This year's Emmys race for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance proved to be a bittersweet one as Boseman went up against Archer's Jessica Walter, whose nomination was also posthumous following her death in March 2021. It also proved to be an interesting one for some, given the late Black Panther star went up against two fellow MCU actors with F. Murray Abraham for his turn as Khonshu in Moon Knight and Jeffrey Wright as What If...?'s Oatu, The Watcher.

Two years later and the death of Chadwick Boseman still weighs heavily on Hollywood, with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever memorably undergoing a longer development cycle as writer/director Ryan Coogler took his time to find a new path forward without his leading man for the MCU sequel.
