Annual reports, analyses by the Office of the AG, and numbers and statistics in the public domain show there were no indications of any significant adverse impact of foreign nationals on the healthcare system in the province.

Data from the Limpopo health department shows it is not foreign nationals who are"killing" the health system, contrary to Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba's comments.

This in contrast to Limpopo Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba's verbal assault of a Zimbabwean patient in a local hospital in which she assailed a woman, claiming an influx of undocumented foreigners are"killing" hospitals. Staff vacancies for critical posts, like specialists and nursing, have also increased, yet more than half of the department's budget is spent on compensating employees.

Enormous medico-legal claims - not foreign nationals - could potentially put the department, and the province, at risk if not checked, and although contingent, could land the province under administration, Risham Maharaj an MPL and DA Limpopo spokesperson for health said. "That is quite large, and it is liability to watch, and it might be, although unconfirmed, suggestive of negligent practices within the province. It does correlate with maternal mortality ratios as cerebral palsy happens in delivery," Van den Heever said.

While Ramathuba told the Zimbabwean patient 91% of Limpopo's population relied on state healthcare, massive vacancy rates placed uncertainty on whether the department could adequately service the population. Data shows since 2016, the department has been operating at half its capacity, leading Maharaj to conclude"the MEC's statements are irrelevant, uncalled for and incorrect".

"It does not imply that they actually have a 50% vacancy rate, it means they do not have proper organisational structural - it is not clear, and they are not using the vacancy rate as part of the strategic management of the system. Only"corrective action" had been taken although not specified. Despite this, irregular expenditure and fruitless and wasteful expenditure has decreased since 2016. "In my opinion, this relates more to malicious compliance in the department - a rap on the knuckles irrespective of the transgressions that have occurred."

The peoples of South Africa should boycott this anti South Africans citizens media they should be boycotted

Whether it’s insignificant adverse impact of foreign nationals on the healthcare system in the province, the truth illegal foreign national should not be using SA health facility because her government is failing. I however understand Zim pt & I would do likewise in her position

Lies lies lies... Ooh lies

I'm glad we have social media because otherwise these journalists would be walking on top of us daily. At least now we get stories first hand and all they do is walk behind making noise. Y'all must be ashamed of calling urself journalists. Y'all integrity's worse than politicians

It's always easy to pin the failures of incompetent and looting officials on the door steps of a vulnerable group as African foreigners. It's the very essence of dubiousity - scapegoating foreigners to cover your complete stealing of resources and an ignorant population buys it.

Vele news24 decided to ignore these facts neh

South Africans have already resolved to stand with Dr Phophi...you can rest now.

Let illegal foreigners go back to Zimbabwe and lets see South Africans won't get beds.

Zimbabwean health money

Mec of the ordinary voters 💅👏

How so,where is are those management reports and AFS?

Until some of you understand the pain waking up at 3am to stand in a queue just to get services at a clinic which when it opens at 8am they might turn you away at 12am for no medicine due to under budget . Eff & DA views don’t matter they use medicals😶‍🌫️

Le baloi

If you want to get away with crime, corruption, negligence and government failures in this Country Screaming Illegal Immigration and Mass Deportation South Africans will forget about everything and make you a hero, lol

Fake reports obviously!! Have they been in those hospitals?!

What y'all regard as insignificant means a lot to us tax payers_ Y'all are full eish !

Wrong profession

Ee u ngasi hanedze. Vhovha vhakho tendela vha bva nnda vhatshi wana madzilafho a ntha. Zwino vhakho vala haya maitele uri hu kone u langea zwavhudi

Cause the reports don't report on such. The reports are probably inaccurate.

It is the courage to even write this article as ethical journalist for me that is really concerning. Why not bit of your own research?

Audits are always based on samples and never on holistical stats report. Secondly AG's focus is on money spent and not on; 1. money owed by foreign nationals, 2. Services provided to foreign nationals daily. So it will take more than an AG report to quantify this.

Kak24 always on time to defend their beloved kwerekweres who are slaves in their homes 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Maybe the politicians and so called journalist need to experience what the average South African has to endure when going to a public hospital. It’s filled with foreigners. I have experienced this on two occasions.Patients waiting more than 24 hours. Facts.

So the answer is that South Africa should just continue to pour from its nearly empty cup because in SA, we have a magic cup filled with infinite resources that we can just pour from and it has no impact...this is the pathetic reasoning that is crippling the world today.

We stand with DR Ramathuba no matter how hard you try to put her in hot water songena naye.

show us these reports and data , cos now , you ain't saying shit

Keyword: significant Updated Fact check: THERE WAS AN IMPACT THEN. Who decides the acceptable level of 'significance?' SA media?

Yes because it’s not recorded since they don’t have SA id’s to can register with

AG report has nothing to do with foreigners in hospital because constitution include them hence we must sort out illegal immigrants subjects because it gives pressure to our health system that is why always we have no medicines in hospitals. Our neighbors must sort themselves

News24 journalist is like they a bewitched xem hai

Why do the media, some political parties and so many people simp for illegal immigrants? I don't understand why they are always against their own countrymen. And this is a worldwide phenomenon.

Ok news24, I think we should expose her by removing the burden she is talking about. Remove the illegal immigration variable she is hiding behind, according to you, then let's see the real truth, don't you think?

You are lying...stop your stupid propaganda

FACT CHECK | No, MEC Ramathuba, poor management is killing Limpopo hospitals - not immigrants | News24Mounting medico-legal claims, lack of consequence management, irregular expenditure and shocking vacancy rates is what is 'killing' hospitals and healthcare in Limpopo, official statistics and audit reports show. And also what the Dr said. We do have our own challenges. We accept that. Is having illegal foreigners contributing positively to the situation? Its so easy to post articles online whilst being deaf and ignorant to what people are experiencing and what is contributing to the mess. Go to Zim and have coffee with their leaders and tell them that they are failing their citizens who end up SA and Botswana thus putting pressure on these countries.
