This summer, Marlowe landed a choice spot as the opening act for country superstar Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous Tour. On his first night inhe was performing his 2020 single, Burn ‘Em All. He sauntered to the edge of the stage and, much to the surprise of the audience, promptly tumbled off the edge of it. He wasn’t injured, but it was captured on an iPhone, or perhaps many iPhones, and it wasn’t long before the grainy footage began to pop up on a number of country-related websites.
Marlowe is no stranger to high-profile, high-stakes gambits. He was first introduced to the world, or at least a certain segment of the world, in 2018 through the reality TV series The Voice. He participated in Season 15 and made the top 24, first as part of Blake Shelton’s team before becoming Adam Levine’s protege. Talent scouts for the series had discovered Marlowe on YouTube and fast-tracked him to a blind audition, where he ably performed Luke Combs’s One Number Away.
“We were going to go up to Wyoming and write for Tyler’s record,” he says. “Tyler decided while we were up there that he wanted to write a song for my record. We sat down and ended up writing We Were Cowboys. When I wrote that song, that’s where everything sort of switched for me in my mind in how I wanted the record to lay out. The song is about all three of our childhoods and all the way up to how we are now.
