Puerto Rican reggaetón music superstar Daddy Yankee’s farewell-tour performance may rank as the biggest moment for many of the fans attending the 2022 edition of Baja Beach Fest in Rosarito Beach.
That honor goes to Banda MS, whose 17-piece lineup will make it the biggest act — literally — to perform at the fourth edition of this homegrown reggaetón and Latin-trap music marathon. The winner of 12 Billboard Latin Music Awards, Banda MS this year performed on the main stage at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. They are only the second regional Mexican music group to have done so in Coachella’s 23-year history.Their Aug. 13 and Aug. 20 return to Baja Beach Fest, where Banda MS is the sole regional Mexican music act booked, should be a rousing one.Saxophonist James Brandon Lewis is shown at a concert in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Lewis, 39, has one foot firmly planted in the jazz sax traditions of John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins, and the other pointed boldly to the future. His big, brawny sound is matched by his dexterity and harmonic sophistication. One suspects his booking at Soda Bar may stem from the fact that he last month signed a new recording contract with Anti, the maverick label that has previously released albums by everyone from Kate Bush and Mavis Staples to the Kronos Quartet and former San Diegan Tom Waits.
