Not to be outdone, Gwyneth Paltrow and Hailey Bieber had a heart-to-heart about benefiting from nepotism.
On Wednesday, Paltrow appeared as a guest on an episode of Hailey Bieber’s YouTube show, Who’s in My Bathroom?, which opened with Paltrow telling Bieber, “I think I know your dad and your uncles.” Haha, Gwyneth! While the two of them made a smoothie inside Bieber’s large Pottery Barn–renovated bathroom, Paltrow proposed that being the child of someone rich and famous can actually make things harder in your career.
Bieber, whose father, Stephen Baldwin, and three uncles, Alec, Daniel, and William Baldwin, are all accomplished actors, asked Paltrow for her “perspective” on nepotism, referencing Paltrow’s mother Blythe Danner, another accomplished actor. “As the child of somebody, you get access other people don’t have,” Paltrow answered. “So the playing field is not level in that way.” Hard to argue with that.
Alas, she did not leave it there. “However,” she said, “I really do feel that once your foot is in the door, which you unfairly got in, then you almost have to work twice as hard and be twice as good. Because people are ready to pull you down and say you don’t belong there or you’re only there because of your dad or your mom or whatever the case may be. ”
Bieber wholeheartedly agreed with this inspirational message for celebrity children. Then they proceeded to work twice as hard at finishing their smoothies.
