Inside the Admissions and Departures building, closer to the lake side of the prison’s grounds, a room has been constructed and meticulously dressed to double for what could have been an East Berlin agent’s office circa 1987, just before the fall of the Wall.
Having the two locations for the film in the same place was one of the attractions for filming the small-budget film here. Here, after filming wraps up for the day, “we just sweep through the location, make sure there’s no food, make sure it’s pretty clean,” Gendron explained during an on-set interview Tuesday. “But all of our equipment can stay here and everything, so that is way easier.”
“We were right there with all this history, and we were creating our own difficult moments. So that affected us, but now we’ve created something else,” she said.
