Whereas Peele's previous films were riffs on horror,"Nope" is his twist on the alien-invasion film as refracted through the prism of David Lynch. So, it's no"War of the Worlds,""Independence Day" or"A Quiet Place" retread where the invaders come in and get right to work trying to wipe humanity off the face of the Earth.
And now strange things are happening again. There's something up there in the sky, waiting, watching and leaving just enough clues to its existence to send the horses into a panic. Along the way, he enlists the assistance of Emerald and Angel , a tech from Fry's Electronics, who is hired to set up cameras in hopes of capturing images of an actual alien. If that happens, maybe, just maybe, they'll get to be interviewed by Oprah. The trio's cheeky camaraderie serves a similar function as Lil Rel Howery's comic relief in"Get Out." And there are all sorts of film and music references that will, no doubt, spark many conversations.
