Thomas Owen, one of more than 150 people who went to the NorthPark AMC on opening day, said the movie producers capitalized on the Gen-Z audience.
Owen said the NorthPark takeover began as a joke in a small friend group and then snowballed through a variety of social media group chats. The suited-up group that gathered at the mall was bigger than anyone expected, and many of the participants, mostly middle and high schoolers who traveled up to 40 minutes for the gathering, didn’t directly know each other.
“Everyone was from all over the place. Friends of friends, and there were all different ages,” Owen said. “We had no idea that it would grow to the scale that it did, but it was a really fun experience, and we’re glad we did it.”
