Miss Alabama has been celebrating its 100th anniversary with a variety of events, including this week’s competition at Samford University. A new winner will be crowned on Saturday.

That brings us to Champion, who chose a University of Alabama theme for her “Show Us Your Shoes” outfit, complete with a flowing houndstooth train, oversize “Roll Tide” wording and an emblem proclaiming the Crimson Tide as 2012′s national champions. Here are some specifics on the costume, provided that year by the Miss Alabama organization:

The custom parade outfit was designed and made by Ann Northington. It featured a black velvet jumpsuit and a houndstooth oversized train with a national championship emblem in the center. The front panels of the train were trimmed in large “Roll Tide” wording. A sweetheart neckline on the jumpsuit was trimmed in black-and-white houndstooth and held up by crystal rhinestone straps.

Robert Logan of Backstage Florists embellished a pair of black pumps with a rhinestone football and Alabama’s traditional “A” attached to the heel to match the dress. Champion also wore a bracelet with miniature version of Nick Saban’s trademark hat.As you might expect, the costume made a splash in her home state, and Champion received national attention from Bleacher Report, The Washington Post, Yahoo Sports, Fox News and more.

“In case you have trouble remembering which Miss America contestant is the one from Alabama, look for the one decked out in Roll Tide fashion,” wrote. “Of course, if your loyalties rest with Alabama you will undoubtedly flip for the dress. As for the rest of the nation who proclaims love for other programs, the reaction might be just a tad different.”

One of a kind dress Miss Alabama had designed for the Miss America competition…. This can’t be real life 😂😂😂

Still trying to figure out the background of that photo, honestly

Well when she's forced to have 15 kids her looks are gonna fade quickly. It's great that these young ladies decided to participate in the very culture that objectifies, demoralizes, & will eventually take away every right they have. Roll F*cking Tide?
