GUILTY: Singer R. Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexual abuse
R. KELLY HAS been sentenced to 30 years in prison after he was found guilty of using his celebrity status to sexually abuse women and children over two decades. The singer-songwriter, now 55, was found guilty on all nine counts against him last September, during a high-profile trial, in New York.The Act forbids the transporting of “any woman or girl” across state lines for sex or “immoral” acts. A woman identified only as Angela said Kelly “grew in wickedness” with every new victim.Kelly was present at the sentencing and wore dark glasses and was dressed in prison khakis.
She told the trial, she was with another young woman and they were playing a prank on Kelly, when they pushed opened his bedroom door.She told the court she immediately closed the door and pushed the other girl who was behind her away from the door.According to Angela’s testimony, the incident with Aaliyah occurred before Kelly illegally married the late singer, when she was 15.
Kelly, had denied all the charges against him and his lawyers had argued his accusers “disgruntled groupies”.He had pleaded not guilty to all charges and repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
