New set photos from Barbie offer the first glimpse at Will Ferrell's mystery character. Based on the eponymous fashion doll line by Mattel, the upcoming Barbie live-action movie is being helmed and co-written by Oscar-nominated director Greta Gerwig. Development on the movie dates as far back as 2009, back when Sony was overseeing. Later, WB took over the production, enlisting the DCEU's Harley Quinn actress, Margot Robbie, to play Barbie.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Barbie stands as one of the most anticipated films of next year, though little has actually been revealed about the project. Plot details remain scarce, and outside of various set photos and videos, the internet has been left to speculate about what Barbie will entail. Outside of Robbie and Gosling, the film features an impressive cast that includes America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, and Ferrell, among others.
The new images featuring Ferrell immediately follow previous set photos that saw Robbie's Barbie and Gosling's Ken skating by the beach. Putting these images together, it's easy to imagine that Barbie would include a chase sequence, presumably where Ferrell's character would hunt down Barbie and Ken on roller skates. A previous video from the Barbie set had teased Robbie's character having a run-in with the law, where she was taken away by two men in suits.
When Ferrell was cast, some reports suggested that he will portray the CEO of a toy company. Irrespective of who he is actually playing in Barbie, simply by the looks of Ferrell's character, one can argue that he is channeling an unmistakable evil corporate bigwig vibe that is strikingly reminiscent of his role as President Business in The Lego Movie. If this is indeed true and Ferrell is playing a c-suite villain, then it boosts the excitement for Barbie even further.
