This is the highest population recorded in a census since 1841 and this is the first time that the population has risen above five million since 1851.The results showed that all counties experienced population growth since the 2016 Census with Longford recording the biggest percentage increase at 14 per cent, followed by Meath with 12.9 per cent.
There was net inward migration of more than 190,000 recorded in the six years between the 2016 Census and this year’s Census.

The population of Ireland is actually over 7 million. The population of the 26 counties is just over 5 million. Do not confuse the 26 counties for all of Ireland and call yourself a newspaper. People in the North abandoned again?

Majority of our increase population are not domestic but foreign nationals, in turn not the best way to be in as a country.

And driven by immigration with more to come and huge pressure on housing, public services , pollution and over crowding - all on a tiny island. It’s utter folly.

Aye,we can't house or medically treat actual tax paying Irish people for the last ten years or so . Our Government who allegedly have Our Interests in mind keep insisting that we keep pouring people into Our Country.We need a Cap on Immigration or at least set a decent standard
