Photograph: Alan BetsonThere is concern over a “very rapid increase” in the number of people in hospitals with Covid-19 in recent weeks, Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has said.
“We’re all aware that there has been a very rapid increase in the number of patients in hospital now with Covid, as of yesterday it was a little over 600… What’s concerning is recently it was down as low as 167, so we’ve seen a threefold increase. A lack of booster cover would mean “more chances of Covid outbreaks” and in turn further pressure on the health service, Mr Donnelly said.
