The remarkable resurgence of Kate Bush's 80s classic Running Up That Hill has culminated in the song going to number one in the UK singles chart.
The achievement comes 44 years after Bush last reached number one, with her debut single Wuthering Heights. "I think that's why she's able to resonate with so many people who are hearing it for the first time."Many of those people were introduced to Running Up That Hill through the latest series of Stranger Things, which premiered at the end of May.
I've listened to it regularly for years, it was the title song for Running Scared a children's programme in 1986, I was 7 at the time. While I can't really remember the show, Kate Bush's superb song has always stuck in my head.
After all, the new generations can tell good music when they hear some. Kate received only a fraction of the recognition she truly deserves. I remember not liking her. She can be hard on the ear at first, but once you 'get' it, it's a gold mine! Like learning a new tongue.
Kate Bush is 1 thanks to her immense talent. A telly show may have brought it to a new audience, which is smashing, but the song was only on the telly show in the first place because it is so good.
