It’s a hot May afternoon, three months since Russia invaded Ukraine, and ballet dancers from the Kyiv City Ballet are busy rehearsing.
Ekaterina Kozlov, deputy director of Kyiv City Ballet, directs the rehearsals with her husband and founder of the company, Ivan Kozlov. Together they hone each movement, striving for perfection. It’s not just the Théâtre du Châtelet that’s opened its doors to the company. The Paris Opera, one of the world’s greatest ballet houses , has allowed Kyiv City Ballet to use their studio space and take classes with their own dancers, and is donating costumes.
