Movie fan Phil Watts completed the feat, which sometimes involved seven films a day, in lockdown.

A self-confessed movie fanatic watched more than 1,000 films in a year after losing his job in the first Covid-19 lockdown.

The son of a former cinema projectionist, he described himself as a "super geek" when it came to cinema.Mr Watts, who is also known among his film-watching network as "Not George Lucas" was working at woodworking firm Yandles, near Yeovil, when he was furloughed in November 2020 and made redundant the following January.

"There were some days when because of work or other reasons I didn't watch any, but on other days I could get through a few of the early Universal monster films as they are only about 70 minutes long. So on a good day I could watch about seven.

I watched over 450 films the year that started with me caring for my Dad as he died of cancer & for the rest of it I then worked 50-60 hour weeks in television post-production while drowning in alcohol & sadness. Want to do a story on me?

Amateur

greggturkington your world record is threatened by this mad lad!

MichaelCWalsh it you

noob

My goodness. Been averaging 250/ year last two years and that’s still a lot

At least he got to watch Gone with the Wind... I've still never seen it.

Paging jamie_graham9

I watched 2001.

Only a 1000🥱?

vc amg ifeeltime

Uhh cool? I did that last year alone and have watched over 500 this year

BBC continues to report crap

Really sad these comments who haven't bothered reading the article. The guy didn't choose to be terminated from his work.

This is news? Nothing else going on in the world then BBC?

Let me guess furlough

I mean I clocked in a fair few during lockdown as well. I just didn’t keep track

Bloody hell, bring back the potter's wheel if this is all the 'news' you've got to report. Give your critics ammunition, why don't you? This. Is. Not. News. Now write that out 100 times, and have long hard think before you write anything else.

What’s he want a bloody medal

So approx 2 years lockdown = 730 days divide by 1000 films = 1.4 films a day. Average length of film say 2 hrs = just under 3 hrs a day. 24 hrs in a day less 8 hrs for sleep and 3 hrs film watching leaves 13 hrs spare. Everyone is famous for 15 minutes, some for the wrong reason

IS THAT ALL ?!?

pathetic

Now tell us what we really want to know. Which was the best one!?

Just made me hit the unfollow button.

Rookie numbers.

How did I know he would have a beard?

Where is his mask?!!!

Also gains 2 stone, heart palpitations and diabetes! Well done my San 👌

Imagine being proud of that

😴😴😴😴😴😴

Nice I was studying home schooling and remote working !!

TheOnion Area man watches TV is even too stupid for you guys right?

News flash! ‘Lazy man use the lockdown as an excuse for being even lazier’

Scoop of the year this.

Can’t be thst much of a film fan if he’s watching movies

Hope he occasionally took some exercise.

I'm glad the £2500 per month from the government's furlough scheme went to good use. I volunteered as a vaccinator, did an MSc, and worked a full time job during lockdown, whilst this guy sat around watching films and isn't ashamed of it, but rather proud of this.

Look at these rookie numbers BrokenADG

Ok, I do that when there's not a lockdown

On 80% furlough?

Oh. This is news ?

That’s why he’s a virgin 👍

My god. I read this and what an utter load of shite. He found it 'laborious', he was 'working on projects while films were on in the background', his friends call him 'not George Lucas'. I reckon someone is being held hostage at the beeb.

And probably now moaning about the cost of living…

Nothing interesting to report today than BBC News.

On furlough

Looks like he aged 1,000 years too.

feat:- noun An achievement that requires great courage, skill, or strength.
