After 11 years and 12 seasons, the beloved Belcher family have finally made it to the big screen in The Bob's Burgers Movie. Extrapolating on Loren Bouchard's long-running animated comedy series, Bob's Burgers, the film focuses on the Belchers' reaction to a large sinkhole ruining their summer plans and endangering their already precarious family business.
It was really hard to just do the series, so we weren't in a hurry to have a movie, even when it was just us talking about it hypothetically. Then, somebody really did ask the question, and I want to say that was four years ago. We knew the answer only because we had, I think, gotten to the point where we knew how to do Bob's big, if that makes sense. We knew how to do it without wrecking it.
When, in your opinion, did you feel like the show was a hit? Because when you're talking about Home Movies, that was one of my favorite shows that had a cult following. When did you realize Bob's Burgers is a smash? There was something that happened with Bob's. It did tip over some number of people who are watching it, where you might run into them in the world. I don't know if we call that a hit. We don't use the H word. We come at this with a lot of humility, and I think it suits a lot of our personalities to just always be the little show. The underdog, like Nora said. Hit? No. [laughs]. We prefer"lucky little duckies.
Loren Bouchard: Yeah. In the end, we knew that if somebody's favorite character wasn't in the movie, but it was a good movie, that the fans would forgive us. Loren Bouchard: I love fan theories. I devour them. There's no question that the most extreme one - and it is not our favorite, but it is worth saying - is that everyone's dead, and they're ghosts. That one, I'm like,"Oh, you can do that for anything.
