Pssst! Wanna adopt a cat who will greet you every time in language you can understand? Shelley Patterson, a volunteer with Island Cat Resources and Adoption in Alameda, got a phone call from a woman who said one of the homeless cats she’s been feeding seemed to be struggling a bit while eating.
“We start driving, and she’s more insistent with her hellos the whole drive home. So I started answering, ‘Hello, we’re going to take care of you.’ My husband met me and opened the garage door for us, and she said ‘Hello’ to him too! He looked at me and said, ‘Did that cat just say, ‘Hello?’ ” Hello Coco, known as such for her practice of apparently saying, “Hello,” is available to adopt from Alameda group Island Cat Resources and Adoption.
“She’s been on antibiotics for a couple of months now,” says Patterson. “She’s a shy girl, but she loves to be petted. When I pet her, she purrs and says ‘Hello!’ again. She realizes she’s safe. I don’t think she’d be a good mix with other cats or kids, just an older person who wants a quiet kitty. She has no bad habits, like spraying or pooping outside her box. I’m an artist, and I’m doing a portrait of her that will go with her.
