A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger and Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees receive cute Lisa Frank-style makeovers in new fan art. The two slasher icons famously faced off against one another in the 2003 crossover film Freddy vs. Jason.
Freddy vs. Jason served as the culmination of decades worth of slasher films, as it was the final installment in each franchise before their respective reboots. Friday the 13th was rebooted by director Marcus Nispel in 2009, followed by director Samuel Bayer's reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street in 2010.
Hey look! It took awhile, but I finally managed to draw that Lisa Frank-style Freddy on a unicorn I was hoping to! This one was considerably easier than the first one, Jason, so who knows, maybe more will follow and be easier still. pic.twitter.com/qLirD5oGR5It is always enjoyable to see talented artists reimagine famous characters in a variety of different art styles.
Though these Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th-inspired designs are fun to look at, suffice to say they likely wouldn't have made it onto a backpack or lunchbox back in the days of the films' original release. However, there is some shared retro appeal given that the Lisa Frank brand and the two iconic slasher franchises were both at the height of their popularity during the 1980s and into the 1990s. Ultimately, it is an unexpected mash-up that works rather seamlessly.
