Pop sensation Cody Simpson and Shayna Jack, who missed almost three years with a drugs ban, have each qualified for the Australian Commonwealth Games and World Championships swimming teams.
“I didn’t even think I’d be remotely competitive until this year at the earliest, so to make the team is just a bonus on the way to Paris,” Simpson said on Amazon Prime Video.Source: Getty Images Simpson qualified for the final in second place after smashing his personal best by a second. Simpson hit the wall in 51.79 seconds, behind just Matthew Temple with a 51.64s.
Jack, who served a 24-month suspension upheld by the Court of Arbitration for sport for ingesting the anabolic agent Ligandrol, has not swum at a major event since the 2018 Commonwealth Games where she won gold as part of the 4x100m relay team. The new Australian champion is 18-year-old Mollie O’Callaghan, who won relay gold in Tokyo with the Campbell sisters and McKeon, swimming a time of 52.49 - matching Emma McKeon’s title-winning time at last year’s meet.
Elijah Winnington won the race with the second-fastest time of the year, and one that would’ve won him gold in Tokyo, a 3:43.10.of learning that fact about his time.
Maybe I should have taken drugs whilst competing so I could get to the top
