Simpson smashes personal best as Jack returns to pool after drug ban | tomdecent

Cody Simpson’s remarkable rise in the pool has continued on morning one of the Australian Swimming Championships after the one-time pop star with more than 4.4 million followers on Instagram shaved nearly a second off his personal best in the 100m butterfly heats heading into Wednesday night’s blockbuster final.

Simpson, who spent his teenage years travelling the world as a singer before devoting his time to training for the 2024 Paris Olympics, won his heat in a time of 51.79s.Simpson has qualified second fastest for Wednesday evening’s final behind Matt Temple , who finished equal fifth in the 100m butterfly final in Tokyo.

Simpson clocked a best time of 52.84 seconds at last year’s Olympic trials before finishing eighth in the final., having earned an exemption for his favoured 100m freestyle event. Jack missed the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive to a banned substance but looked the goods with a 53.27, putting her equal second fastest for the final.Meanwhile, Elijah Winnington has qualified fastest for Wednesday night’s 400m freestyle final ahead of Sam Short and Mack Horton .
