The iconic comedian originally planned to film the special in front of a live audience, but COVID-19 had other plans.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA - NOVEMBER 13: Comedian Norm MacDonald performs on stage at the Saban Community Clinic's 50th Anniversary Dinner Gala at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on November 13, 2017 in Beverly Hills, California. Netflix also aired 10 episodes of an interview series, "Norm Macdonald Has a Show." Guests included David Letterman, Lorne Michaels, Jane Fonda and Judge Judy Sheindlin.

"Norm worked so hard on a new hour of material and wanted it to be seen," said Lori Jo Hoekstra, executive producer of his final special. "While this version of Nothing Special was not originally meant to be the final product ... we want to make sure his fans see this very funny hour. He left this gift for all of us.

The special will also include a conversation with Dave Chappelle, David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, Adam Sandler, Molly Shannon and David Spade as they talk about "their friend Norm, a fearless comedian and joyful human being."
