Despite a lack of updates, The CW's PowerpuffGirls reboot is reportedly still in development after its first pilot was scrapped last year.

The live-action Powerpuff Girls show is reportedly still in active development at The CW after the first iteration was rejected. Since the network's inception, The CW has been known for its many teen/young-adult dramas that are heavily rooted in the fantasy and sci-fi genres. For a decade, executive producer Greg Berlanti has been a major creator for the network, particularly because of the Arrowverse and the Riverdale universe.

While being primarily recognized for his Arrowverse involvement, Berlanti was close to bringing another famous IP to life, but this time from the Hanna-Barbera/Cartoon Network franchise: The Powerpuff Girls. The CW put a live-action adaption of the beloved cartoon into the works back in 2020, with Berlanti attached as one of the executive producers. Titled Powerpuff, the pilot was written by Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier, who would have served as executive producers.

Powerpuff initially cast Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yanna Perrault as Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, respectively. Despite filming the pilot, Bennet departed the live-action project in August 2021 due to"scheduling conflicts" that had many speculate the Agents of SHIELD star was returning to the MCU as Daisy Johnson, a.k.a. Quake.

Other than having to recast Blossom, it's unclear what new changes they're making to the Powerpuff Girls series if it actually goes forward. Given that The CW had issues with the pilot's campiness, only time will tell what the tone will ultimately be for the show. What's important to remember, however, is that while Powerpuff may currently be in re-development, it's not a guarantee it will get considered for pilot season again.

When was there a black Powerpuff girl. I don't remember her in the cartoons at all

chloebennet will make this show! Will watch for her!

Didn’t the one of the leads leave the one playing Blossom after the fail of the pilot

CW, will greenlight any garbage.

This thing just won't die

go woke go broke, apparently CW is hell bent on losing money to succeed in making most people hate them

The show nobody wants. I will never understand why big studios and channels throw money at really stupid shit and end up cancelling some of the best content that already has a following. 🤷‍♂️

Ok but why

The CW should just shut down. The world has suffered enough

I forgot all about this
