Poll numbers show Scott Morrison’s problem with female voters. Anthony Albanese doesn’t fare much better.

Scott Morrison’s unpopularity with female voters has been driven home by a compilation of poll data which shows support for both the prime minister and the Coalition are much lower than at the last election.

The data has been compiled from the three The Australian Financial Review Ipsos Polls that have been conducted since April 2,The polls have collectively sampled 6959 voters, of which 3430 were men and 3529 were women. Mr Morrison’s disapproval rating was at 46 per cent among women at this time before the last election. It has again been consistent over the course of this campaign and averaged 51 per cent among women.

Mr Morrison, who has struggled with female voters since his handling of the rape allegations surrounding former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins, was deemed clunky and tin eared, especially by women. The numbers also reflect on the government’s prospects. Primary vote support for the Coalition among women has averaged 28 per cent over the course of the campaign, compared with 34 per cent among men.
