The focus on male stars such as Magnus Carlsen obscures the brilliance of female chess players, says music journalist Alisha Matthewson-Grand

I was wondering when intersectional feminism would try to ruin chess. For the love of all that is good leave chess alone. Chess is the ultimate meritocracy. It doesn't care about your age, race, sex, income, or nationality. You can be a child and be a GM. You just have to win.

What's the big deal? Didn't we let Saudi on the Human Right Council in the UN or something? Lol. How did that one worked?

Yes, why not jointly hold the World Chess Championship fir the Women?

Lol at this

Doesn't matter. If no rule bars their entry, there isn't a problem. Don't be sexist and make one. Men doing things they enjoy together isn't a problem. Saying not enough women is a sexist dog whistle meaning 'too many men'. Equivalent to 'too many blacks', 'too many Jews', etc.

Most likely the lack of women is simply because more men are interested in playing chess than women. That's it...no intentional under-representation. There are other hobbies/game men tend to be more interested in than women; coin collecting, wood working, fishing to name a few

russells_teapot Interesting, since chess is not about gender, but about having the best rating. A female could be 1 at the rankings....guess no female has a high enough rating for that...(in the top 50 even)

They're all watching shite like the Kardashians, or Masterchef, or TOWIE, or Made in Chelsea or I'm a Celebrity, which is eroding their brains at quite an alarming rate. That's my educated guess Alisha.

I like how feminists call inconvenient facts 'pseudoscientific', just because they don't support their narrative.

It seems to me like the focus on male stars is because there are extremely few chess stars overall, so the media focuses only on the very best. The author has a valid point as to why women are under-represented in chess in general, but the framing here is quite misleading.

Women don't have the leisure time needed to develop such pursuits.

Why not just open the championship to women? And if it already is, why aren't they winning matches? You win, you get attention. Even just beating any of these 'stars' in championship matches should get you plenty of attention.

Here's a hate fact for you. There are more men with higher IQs. So yea, less female chess players.

They can't play chess and they are even poorer at making sons.
