But there are also encouraging trends. In February and March 2022 respectively, deaths dipped below 200, the first time since September 2021.

from the B.C. Coroners Service, there have been 548 deaths from suspected illicit drug toxicity from January to March, up 13 from the 535 deaths over the same three-month period last year.

This year’s data also indicate a downward trend, with the March deaths 44 less than the 209 reported in January and nine less than the 174 deaths in February. “The volatile illicit market remains unreliable and unpredictable, and continues to take the lives of loved ones across the province.”
