South African government officials have spent more than R1.3 billion on food, lodgings, and entertainment — and the Department of Justice and Correctional Services is the biggest culprit.

Another big spender was the Department of Basic Education, which blewMinister for Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi, revealed that his department hadMotsoaledi explained that the department had spent the funds securing accommodation for officials at events such as conferences, parliamentary briefings, and deployment of officials to borders.

“The amount spent on parties, dinners and hotels would be enough to provide school meals for 250,000 needy children for their entire school career of 12 years,” City Press quoted Schreiber as saying. Earlier this month, Schreiber said the DA saved South African taxpayers up to R39 million each year after exerting “relentless pressure” for Parliament to adopt a new travel policy for retired ministers and their deputies.

More specifically, annual free flights for officials and their spouses have been cut from 72 to 12, and officials are only entitled to economy class tickets.

They should be forced to stay in places where there is pit toilets, cramped quarters and limited menu

Just reinforcing that the stereotype of these things is true

Thats why they 'fight' so hard to remain in power...not for the people of this country but to enrich their own lives...and yet people still vote foŕ them.Something wrong with this picture .Please make me understand !

Government does this but then complains that so many young professionals are leaving the country? Yeah, of course we're going to leave. Why would I stay just so I can be robbed of my hard earned money?

The sign if a system coming to a halt is when government needs, desires are more important than the people's even at the expense of life

and the ANChor Movement followers&voters dont see this as WRONG. hence keeping the 30% as an Acceptable rate is Accepted & celebrated. another Good story to tell... LMFAO

im_an_african The wheel turns. Slowly. But steadily. Their time will come.
