2022 election: Q&A with Peter Singer, candidate for Superior Court Judge, Office 36

Q: Why are you seeking this position?

Q: What is your judicial philosophy? What are the guiding principles that will shape your rulings or beliefs as a judge?A: As an attorney, I served as a temporary judge for 22 years. When coupled with my years as a court commissioner, my judicial philosophy is established. It is imperative that those on the bench never lose sight of the fact that we are there exclusively to serve the public.

Q: When do you think it’s appropriate to limit cameras or audio recorders in the courtroom? Post-pandemic, do you think virtual hearings should continue, and under which circumstances? Appointed by California’s Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, I serve on an advisory committee to the Judicial Council of California. In that capacity, I have been instrumental in drafting California Rules of Court, with the purpose of efficiently and fairly continuing and expanding the availability of virtual court opportunities in situations where due process rights are not violated.
