Academy Award winner Penélope Cruz explains why she would be open to starring in a Batgirl movie. The upcoming installment in the DC Extended Universe franchise will serve as the introductory story for the Bat family member, with Leslie Grace donning the cowl as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl. Cruz herself has enjoyed quite an eclectic and diverse career over the years, from playing Blackbeard's fierce daughter Angelica in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides to the devoutly faithful nurse Pilar Estravados in Kenneth Branagh's Agatha Christie adaptation, Murder on the Orient Express.
That sounds so cool. I don’t even need to read that script… I haven’t done that genre, but with Pedro it would be revolutionary. Cruz has appeared in several of Almodóvar's movies, with Parallel Mothers their most recent collaboration. The actor clearly has enormous respect for Almodóvar and his process as a director, no doubt based on their extensive working relationship that goes back 25 years.
Cruz's enthusiastic endorsement of appearing in an Almodóvar-led Batgirl movie will almost certainly open the door to speculation as to which character the actor would be the most well-suited to play.
