Spider-Man: No Way Home is now the third film in cinema history to have passed the $800 million mark in the domestic box office. The film, which hit theaters on December 21, 2021 and is still playing in theaters, is the third entry in the MCU's Spider-Man trilogy following the introduction of Tom Holland's iteration of the character in 2016's Captain America: Civil War.
The mega-hit blockbuster has been breaking box office records, even compared to big pre-pandemic releases, since its opening day. In addition to becoming the first film in the pandemic era to cross $1 billion, it has topped 6 weekends since its release and remained in the top 3 for most of the weeks that a new release claimed the top spot, in addition to steadily climbing the charts of the highest-grossing domestic films of all time.
Despite its mind-blowing theatrical run and this new record, it doesn't seem like No Way Home quite has the juice to climb any higher up the all-time charts. Its $800 million take is still considerably behind the second-place title, Avengers: Endgame , and completely out of the range of the number one film, Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens .
The theatrical success of Spider-Man: No Way Home is even more impressive now that it has already become available for purchase on digital platforms, with a Blu-Ray coming right around the corner on April 12, 2022. Not only is it commercially and critically successful, but it is also a frontrunner to win this year's social media-polled fan favorite award at the Oscars.
