Anyone looking at the city's COVID-19 data in the last two weeks might have noticed the number of official cases started going up again at the same time the positivity rate was trending down. Infectious disease experts explain why this might be happening.

There have been plenty of anecdotal reports of people getting COVID-19 in recent days, but it’s likely that not all of those cases are being recorded. As rapid at-home tests become prevalent, city officials have maintained that there are still enough people getting tested at city-run sites and private clinics to provide early warning signs of a new wave. At the March 18 press conference, the city noted that test results for about 60,000 people had been reported on a recent day.

This is a disgusting quote about what the new normal is. That’s absolute hogwash. Restrictions are done and the so-called “new normal” is living with this normally and the burden being on the healthcare system, not the public. Shame on the docs quoted in here for fear-mongering.

anildash FFS, look at the rest of the frigging world! Hong Kong? UK? Denmark? Over and over again, we decide we're special, the virus is afraid of us, and it just won't come here. 😣

Don’t lift mandates !

It’s really alarming that besides the issues with monitoring for surges, NYCMayor NYCHealthCommr etc. aren’t giving any indication whether or when they’d reintroduce mitigations like masking. Considering how fast BA.1 started to spread here, why wouldn’t there be a plan

The framing of this is horrible. People aren't 'keeping an eye on covid numbers like checking the weather'. And the discrepancies observed are intentional. Federal and state/city policy is clearly designed to cover up the true scale if the pandemic, which is getting worse daily.

Now that testing occurs largely at home, with no reporting obligation, how can we pretend to have any idea of the 'positivity rate'?

So kids will be back to wearing masks in school... Well that was a nice reprieve for a few weeks.
