Channing Tatum says he based his look in TheLostCity on Brad Pitt in 1994's Legends of the Fall.

Channing Tatum says that he based his look in The Lost City on co-star Brad Pitt in the Oscar-winning film Legends of the Fall. So far, the recent release of The Lost City has been met with plenty of acclaim, both critically and from audiences. The film brings together some pretty bankable Hollywood stars in addition to Tatum and Pitt. Sandra Bullock takes on the film’s lead role and Daniel Radcliffe enjoys his first big-budgeted turn as a villain.

But in a time when the romantic comedy has made a small yet noticeable comeback, it’s still considered unusual to see a large-scale entry in the genre. The days of the adventure/rom-com hybrid seemed to have ended long ago, yet for The Lost City, none of that appears to matter. The film follows romance novelist Loretta Sage, whose book tour takes a turn for the worse after she’s kidnapped by billionaire Abigail Fairfax .

I actually gave the note – I have to wear a wig for my cover model sort of look, Dash’s look, and I was like, I just want to look like Legends of the Fall Brad Pitt. Can you please just make me that, make me as close to that as you can possibly make me. Tatum also went on to praise Pitt for his comedic timing in The Lost City. As any fan of Pitt’s work over the years can attest to, his ability to make audiences laugh has always been a part of his acting, although his earliest roles were more often than not dramatic ones. Nonetheless, even in darker films like Fight Club, Pitt balances his deadly serious edge with hints of humor that truly elevate the role.

So far the success of The Lost City seems genuinely promising. This holds true not just for the film and any possible sequels it might take on, but also for the romantic comedy genre. While it’s still too early to tell, what is clear is that hit films in unexpected genres often spawn trends. If this ends up being the case with the action-adventure rom-com, then there’s plenty of reason for rom-com fans to be excited.
