Saw 10 writer Josh Stolberg shares an update on the new movie's status, noting it hasn't been greenlit yet but teasing his excitement for the script. Stolberg first joined the long-running horror franchise with 2017's Jigsaw, which served as a revival of the series as police rush to investigate a new series of murders that seem to fit the titular killer's modus operandi, despite having been dead for almost a decade.
This success would lead Lionsgate to keeping the ball rolling with Spiral: From the Book of Saw, a spin-off installment in the franchise with Stolberg re-teaming with Peter Goldfinger to pen the script on a story concept from star Chris Rock. Released in theaters in May2021, the film received similarly mixed-to-negative reviews as Jigsaw and was a modest box office success, grossing over $40 million against its $20 million budget amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
I can’t comment on anything that hasn’t been officially announced by #TwistedPictures or @Lionsgate. What I can tell you is that this is my favorite script of the three #Saw movies I’ve written. https://t.co/3T7m3LnYH5Stolberg's Saw 10 update may come as a disappointment for those eager to see the horror franchise return to the big screen, but it's also a largely understandable one.
In the months since this seeming confirmation, Stolberg has confirmed development on Saw 10 at various points, including teasing the return of Tobin Bell's Jigsaw. While his new update seemingly points towards the creatives behind the franchise awaiting word from the studio on the potential to move forward, Stolberg's new tease that it's his favorite of the three Saw films he's written thus far should come as an exciting prospect for the potential sequel.
