The long-vacant lot on Messer Airport Highway and 41st Street in Avondale will be the home of the first Alabama location of Slim & Husky's Pizza Beeria.
Gray, Reed, and Moore worked with commercial and residential real estate agent Justin Ridgeway to find the location. Ridgeway’s connection to Gray and Moore dates back to their days on the Tennessee State University Football team. The TSU alums are also members of the fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi. Ridgeway also kept up to date with his fellow TSU alum’s business moves. Before venturing into the restaurant world, Gray, Reed, and Moore ran The Green Truck Moving & Storage Company, an eco-friendly moving service. The trio sold the business in 2017 and used the money to invest in opening a brick and mortar location of their blooming pizza concept.“Of course, I’d followed the fellas,” said Ridegway. " They’d had a very successful moving company prior to Slim & Husky’s.
Over the years, the trio has expanded the Slim & Husky’s brand into a creative collective for visual art and music, hosting local art shows and --most recently-- partnering with the National Association of Art & Music for a hip-hop and R&B live music series featuring Nashville-based artists. So far, Gray, Reed, and Moore have plans to demolish the Burger King building. Ridgeway is also in the process of setting up more meetings between the Slim & Husky’s team and city officials, building on a productive July 2021 meeting that ultimately led to the trio making a move on the Avondale property four months later.
