Huang, then unrepresented, had claimed trial to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon. He was found guilty of assaulting an employee with a metal scraper in the 11 December 2018 offence.Assaulted migrant worker On 11 December 2018, Ng took a heavy scraper with a 40cm-long wooden handle and a 15cm rusty, sharp metal tip and thrust it at Jahidul. Ng then lifted the scraper over his head and brought it down on Jahidul’s head, causing a bruise on the left side of the victim’s scalp. He also hit the victim’s abdomen. The offence occurred at a canteen at the Singapore Islamic Hub along Braddell Road.
Chung added that if Huang had actually used the scraper to assault the victim, the injuries would have been greater. Chung sought a lower jail term of six months’ for his client.In arguing for the appeal to be dismissed, Deputy Public Prosecutor Chong Kee En argued that the victim’s testimony was supported by a “plethora of objective contextual evidence” which showed that Huang had hurt him.
