Derek Mooney has suffered with back and ear problems since leaving Radio 1 show

Working across radio and TV, he fronted Winning Streak, Echo Island, Cabin Fever, You're a Star, The Big Money Game and Fame: The Musical over the years - as well as his weekday Radio 1 afternoon programme called Mooney.

After much speculation, it was revealed that Ray D'Arcy would taking over the slot. Ray still hosts the 3-4.30pm show. "I just didn't talk about my sexuality. I'm a guy who presents a radio show and that's it. I shouldn't have to talk about my private life. It should be about what I'm doing for a living.

"You hear all these things all the time and I'm sure anybody who puts themselves in the entertainment industry in any shape or form experiences the same thing and they can never quite figure out why did I not get that," he said on Ryan Tubridy's 2fm radio show.
