Just a few months ago, local leaders touted the clearing of homeless encampments from VeniceBeach. Now, local residents say the tents and the homeless have returned. What went wrong? Eyewitness News reporter ABC7Amy is live - Tonight at 11 from ABC7.

Just last summer, hundreds of unhoused people and their tents were removed from large encampments along the Venice boardwalk and moved to supportive housing.

"It's almost beyond frustration. It's comical," said resident Dave Turner."The mismanagement of it has not served anyone well."Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin, who represents Venice, has faced backlash over his handling of the homeless crisis. Critics accuse the councilman of inaction that they say has led to a growing homeless population in their neighborhoods.

Before last year's cleanup, residents said fights, fires and even shootings were happening at the encampments.

abc7amy It is like a termite infestation that keeps returning, but worse. Have this problem at one of our properties - no sooner do you get rid of the homeless and they are back living in squalor, trash, human waste, and filth. And leaving their trash everywhere.

abc7amy Keep giving them home, money and food and they will always return. Being homeless is a choice. They choose to be homeless.

abc7amy What they expect was going to happen? Getting rid of their tents isn’t all of a sudden help them have a job, a home, mental health support, etc. You can’t just tear down their tents abd expect they disappear.

abc7amy You guys should interview Traci Park moving forward, as Bonin never is ‘available for comment’. He lives in the Palisades and doesn’t touch anything else in CD11. He’s recall is coming up and Traci is the best replacement.

abc7amy America has survived for 250 years without people living on our streets and beaches. People living in filth and squalor. They need to be removed immediately.

abc7amy Well what went wrong is. You cleared them out from one place, then the next n the next. When there's nothing left. They return to first place. There's only so many places they can go. With no jobs or address to get a job. Amidst this pandemic what do you expect?🤷🏿 datdudefrewil

abc7amy LASDHQ 👀🤔🤷‍♂️

abc7amy 'What went wrong?' wtf

abc7amy

abc7amy Well there was just a murder. And earlier in the same area was a large gang brawl with bats, 2x4, poles ect. The more tents, the more gunshots. Murders. Kidnapping. Prostitution. Violence. Robberies. Noise. Infectious diseases. Inhumanity. Overdoses. Killings. Rapes. Torture.

abc7amy ☹

abc7amy Happens every time JoeBuscaino pays his cronies to come clean up harbor city. This place is a dump. They come right back and it’s worse

abc7amy You voted wrong, every time you voted wrong and now you are unhappy. Classic.

abc7amy What went wrong? The Sheriff entrusted the City for the upkeep after sending the bums packing. Well, the city let them come back. Have fun kids.

abc7amy 🤦‍♀️

abc7amy What went wrong…….? Well, a heartless commmunity sees homelessness near them as the problem instead of seeing homelessness as the problem

abc7amy No more free federal money. That’s went wrong.

abc7amy What went wrong? CA cares more about how their county looks than it's actual citizens. They don't have a place to go. If they won't help them, then leave them alone.
