Affirmative action has historically been the engine of diversity in higher education. What do Americans think of affirmative action? It depends on how you ask the question.

It is time diverse people earn their keep same as everybody else.being black for instance is not a free pass. For too long jobs have been given to less educated applicants, and we all suffer as a result.Even Obama was passed in law school, when he didn't earn the grade to pass !

We want the best teachers to teach. Race doesn't matter, but nobody should get the job over a more qualified applicant just because of color. That means taking away quality knowledge students can learn and cheats them out of an excellent education when tuitions are high.

Affirmative action makes education a JOKE. Is that how you are going to prepare people for competitive market? By giving special treatment so some groups over the other? Why cannot education be merit based? Why it is wrong? Economy will not be giving preferential treatment.

How is affirmative action different from racism? It IS racism but done in the name of fuzzy equality&justified with questionable tactics. Advocates of it treat people's skin color as something of a value&try to forcefully make specific groups more equal than others-classic racism

All for it

Pay educators what they are worth (a lot), ensure kids have adequate nutrition, and ensure all national K-12 curricula are competitive, of high quality and appropriate for the generation. AA is an elitist issue considering the real challenges to education.

It's both good and bad. Good when minorities get a chance that pig headed a-holes wouldn't give them otherwise. Bad when much more qualified hard working people get shut out for unqualified lazy individuals based on their race or sex.

Garbage.

Lie! No it does not depend on how you ask the question.

I think a lot of horrific shit happens to me and every time people think it's funny to watch me get hurt because I am white. AND I've really been held back over my appearance.

AA is government backed racism. End of discussion.

Affirmative Action is racism in its purest form.

I'm a short fat stupid person. I'm discriminated every time I apply and I couldn't pass a test to save my life. were's my equal protection. When do I get my own law?

Affirmative action is great but abusing the system makes it a bad idea.

Diversity is a codeword for anti-white. I like merit over melanin.

Wrong. Wealthy students from foreign countries have been the engine of diversity in higher education. At USC, as an example, foreign students from Asia make up something like 70% the graduate cohort.

I like to hope the demographics of any public organization matches the demographics of the location in which the institution is. Outside of that we should investigate and look at why those numbers aren’t somewhat parallel.
