Paul Reid speculates behaviour may be due to ‘sense of security’ given people are vaccinated

Up to half of all people booked for Covid-19 boosters in some vaccination centres are failing to turn up, according to HSE chief executiveAlthough the booster campaign was progressing well, there is a high level of people not coming forward, Mr Reid said, with “no show” rates of 25-50 per cent in come centres.

The HSE boss has written to all services outlining the actions being taken. Each of the model 4 hospitals will identify surge intensive care unit beds, to be supported by the redeployment of staff from other activities they will have to curtail, he explained. Mr Reid said health staff are under an “inconceivable level of strain” and “at their wits’ end” due to the current virus wave. “Any organisation that had to deal with one wave of Covid would be extremely challenged. To have to deal with four waves, plus a cyberattack . . . many organisations would not have survived.”

Planned use of private hospital capacity is being increased from 1,100 bed-days a week to 3,000 in the coming weeks. Testing capacity will be expanded to new centres with increased throughput and private operators will also carry out testing.‘Lost a lot of staff’made recommendations on expanding the programme, during which it “lost a lot of staff”.

I got an apt for Friday at a centre 3 hours away having already gotten the booster at work. did actually try to phone to cancel (in the middle of a hectic workday) but didn’t have the 30+ minutes to spend on hold hoping someone would answer. noshow

My mother got a text to say she missed an appointment and another one would be arranged, this was the first she'd heard of an appointment......an hour later a second text came through with the details for the appointment she'd 'missed'! Beware HSE figures!

I’ll happily take it

Excellent! People are waking up finally!!!

Got a notification to my HSE phone at 9.30pm on a Friday for a 9am Monday appt. Tried to cancel when I got in to work on Monday and saw the text but it was within 24 hours so marked as a no show.

Because we might as well have injected ourselves with cat piss as it would have been as effective..

My friend got her appointment notification 2 days after the appointment date so its not surprising people a not showing up

High rate of now shows likely reflects the ridiculous situation that appointments for boosters cannot be rescheduled ….. if you don’t show you automatically receive a new appointment

So why not have a line for walk ins.

I'm a HCW and was told to get my booster at work.Spent 20 minutes on hold to cancel my appointment scheduled for the middle of a working day at a vaccination centre. Eventually got through to someone who said they cancelled it only to get a 'you failed to attend' msg the next day
