I cherish that day because not only was I a great admirer of his amazing body of work, but his kind and humble demeanour was wonderful to experience and very inspiring. Our friendship grew over long phone conversations and impromptu lunches at his favourite Chinese restaurant in Queensway, or at The Wolseley.
Barney was about to turn 90 at the end of this year. Such curiosity, enthusiasm and sharp wit would be impressive in someone half his age. Barney was a gifted artist and pioneering art director with an exquisite eye. He had a way of communicating that was both charming and respectful. He’s the ultimate example of the kind of quiet talent, grace and elegance that will always be inspiring to me and to the many others who knew him or his work. Rest in peace, wonderful Barney.
So wan is a real name.
